Inter want City’s de Jong and Spurs’ Walker for Serie A charge
Published:Nigel De Jong could be set to swap Manchester for Milan this summer as Inter prepare an £8 million bid for the midfield enforcer.
The Dutch international has found his opportunities restricted this season as City have gone on to challenge for the Premier League crown, starting only 11 league games this campaign.
The former Hamburg man joined the Citizens for £18 million in January 2009 and formed a tenacious partnership with Gareth Barry, but this term boss Roberto Mancini has opted to play with more freedom, instead using the likes of Yaya Toure and James Milner in a deeper role leaving no space in the line-up for de Jong.
A move to Italy would suit the hardman who is renowned for his no nonsense attitude and defensive capabilities, something that the Inter hierarchy believe is lacking in their current squad, with the Nerazzuri conceding an unprecedented 45 goals so far this season and find themselves languishing in seventh in Serie A.
However, the lack of Champions League football may prove pivotal in this deal.
The 27-year old is keen to ply his trade on Europe’s greatest stage and with the Milan club struggling to even qualify for the Europa League a move may not be to his liking.
Inter also have their eye on recent PFA Young Player of the Year Kyle Walker.
The Spurs right-back has been in sparkling form this season, and he is also attracting the attentions of Jose Mourinho, as the Portuguese goes in search of a more attack minded full-back for his Real Madrid squad.
Although the Italians are keen on Walker they may not make an offer until next summer, as they wait to see how the youngster develops further and if he expresses a desire to leave the London club.
