English and German doubles could make for a hot summer

Chelsea and Bayern Munich meet to renew old Anglo-German rivalries in Munich in this weekend’s Champion League final, and there’s every chance that both club’s national sides could be challenging for the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine this summer.

Ladbrokes are offering odds of 5/1 on German stalwarts Bayern lifting the Champions League trophy on home turf and the German national side claiming victory at Euro 2012.

Jupp Heynckes side have the upper hand going into the final of club football’s premier competition, as it takes place in Munich’s Allianz Arena.

The host side may have suffered the indignity of losing both the league title and the German Cup to Dortmund, but are being tipped to have too much for a Chelsea team missing key players in the shape of John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Raul Meireles and Ramires.

Joachim Low’s national side are one of the best in world football and are well backed to secure a European triumph.

Low’s men cruised through qualifying winning every one of their matches and look a smart bet to challenge for the trophy.

Also on offer is a 28/1 double in which Roberto Di Matteo’s men win their first ever Champions League crown and England take home their first major honour since 1966.

The Pensioners will be eager to overcome memories of defeat in the final against Manchester United in 2008, as they look to repeat the Red Devils’ triumph over Bayern in a Champions League final.

Despite being second favourites to lift the trophy the Blues have scored in every European game they have been involved in and will have a real chance in Germany.

Roy Hodgson’s England head into the summer as genuine outsiders and for the first time in decades they enter a major competition without a weight of expectancy on their shoulders.

The easing of the pressure may allow the players to spark a few suprises, and with this no doubt a last chance for some of the country’s supposed ‘golden generation’, it could be a wonderful summer for English football.
