It may pay to side with favourites in Prizefighter betting

The 25th renewal of the Prizefighter International Heavyweights tournament gets underway on Wednesday night, with former WBC title challenger Albert Sosnowski kicking off the action at 2/5 against Maurice Harris.

Sosnowski has squared off against Vitali Klitschko for the belt in the past, an accolade also shared by American fighter Kevin Johnson, who is odds on at 1/6 to win his first bout of the night against Noureddine Meddoune on Wednesday.

Both fighters look primed to advance to the latter stages of the competition, and punters backing them to do so will take heart from either man’s considerable pedigree in boxing.

Nicknamed ‘Dragon,’ the experienced Sosnowski has triumphed in 46 of his 52 professional fights, and with an unbeaten record on British soil, including ten knockout successes, the Pole seems primed for another win here.

Meanwhile, Johnson counts his World heavyweight title defeat to Kitschko as the only loss of his 28-fight professional career, and looks a class apart from some other competitors in this tournament.

Johnson enters his clash with Meddoune on the back of claiming the IBF Australasian heavyweight title, dispelling fears he could struggle outside of his native America.

His bout on Wednesday will be his first in Britain, but he should have no trouble whatseoever in advancing in the competition.

Elsewhere, 4/11 chance Tor Hamer will be eager to improve on an impressive career thus far, despite its infantile nature.

Winner of the 2008 Golden Gloves at super-heavyweight level, the imposing American can further improve on a record of 11 wins from 12 fights, with Brazilian Marcelo Luiz Nascimento, who has lost three of his 19 fights, standing in his way.

The tightest affair at York Hall meanwhile, looks as though it will come when Tom Dallas meets Tom Little.

Ladbrokes cannot separate the pair, and price both at 5/6 to triumph in Wednesday night’s Prizefighter contest at York Hall.
