Team GB boss advancing in betting for Swansea vacancy

With Marcel Desailly’s admission that he has rejected advances from Swansea City, Stuart Pearce has seen support for the Liberty Stadium vacancy, and is now 5/1 joint-second favourite for the post.

Pearce, whose last job as a club manager was at Manchester City five years ago, is currently preparing his Team GB side for this summer’s Olympic games in London.

He is also the current England under-21s manager, but betting on the next Swansea manager market would seem to suggest he could be ready for another crack at club management.

England’s younger side has often drawn praise for the eye-catching style in which they play football under Pearce, and such acclaim would attract Swans chairman Huw Jenkins to the former Nottingham Forest stalwart.

Jenkins maintains that an aesthetically pleasing style of football would have to be implemented by his latest appointment, as he aims to see the candidate continue the terrific work started by Brendan Rodgers.

Also appealing to the chairman would be the fact that several of the Swans squad have experience of working under Pearce, who has managed the likes of Scott Sinclair, Wayne Routledge and Leroy Lita during his England under-21 tenure.

A man renowned for his passion, Pearce could prove an ideal candidate to ensure complacency doesn’t set in at Swansea during their second season as a Premier League club.

That said, he still remains at a far longer price than favourite Michael Laudrup, who is odds-on at 4/11 to take the reins of the Welsh club.

Graeme Jones also remains at 5/1 in the betting, though the Wigan coach’s apparent reluctance to take on a role as a full-time manager may soon see that price drift.

Amongst the other main contenders for the post meanwhile, are Blackpool’s Ian Holloway at 8/1, and Jordi Cruyff, who is a 10/1 shot.
