Dai Greene a good bet to claim Olympic 400m hurdle gold
Published:Dai Greene has been installed as the 11/4 second favourite to claim gold at the Olympics this summer.
The Team GB athletics captain is the current Commonwealth and world champion and is heavily fancied to be among the medals in London.
His preparation has been excellent and he recorded a personal best of 47.84seconds in the event earlier this month, making him a good bet to come away with gold.
His biggest worry will be overcoming favourite and world record holder Javier Culson who can be backed at 6/5 to win the event.
However, Greene has already seen off the Puerto Rican in the world championships and his personal best of 47.72 came two years ago.
His only major gold medal came in the Central America and Caribbean Games in 2009 and Greene should have enough to see him off.
It’s hard to see a winner coming from outside of those two but, with so much that can go wrong in the 400m hurdles, it may be worth looking a little further down in the betting.
Such is the dominance of Culson and Greene that, the third favourite is two-time Olympic champion Angelo Taylor at a rather large 6/1.
Taylor has shown he has the ability and the temperament for the big occasion and, despite him being the wrong side of 30-years-old, he can still be a major threat.
