Tour de France winner Wiggins odds-on to get gold for Team GB

Bradley Wiggins is the odds-on favourite to win the men’s time trial according to Ladbrokes.

The Brit is chalked up at 4/9 to pick up the gold medal in this afternoon’s time trial which would see him complete a historic summer that saw him become the first Brit to win the Tour de France last month.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “All eyes are on Wiggo now to deliver the first gold and the odds suggest he’ll do the business. Punters will be cycling all the way to their local Ladbrokes to collect their winnings.”

However, things haven’t gone quite to plan for Team GB on the bike so far, with Mark Cavendish being frozen out of the road race during the first day of competition.

And Wiggins won’t have things all his own way in the 44 kilometre event either.

World Time Trial champion Tony Martin is second favourite at 7/2 and will give Wiggins a tough test, but if you’re looking for slightly longer odds then Fabain Cancellara may be worth consideration.

The Swiss is defending Olympic time trial champion and the route should give him a good chance of defending his title.

However, a bad crash at a late turn on Saturday’s road race has seen his preparations falter and he is out at 11/2 to get the gold.
