West Ham enter race to bag Liverpool striker Andy Carroll
Published:Andy Carroll’s Liverpool future looks more in doubt than ever with West Ham United now looking to add the striker to their team for the coming season.
According to the Independent, Liverpool are resigned to losing a large sum of cash on the initial £35million they paid for Carroll if they decide to sell him.
However, with Carroll’s stock hardly at its highest, a loan deal for the player looks the most likely option, with the Anfield hierarchy not convinced they can even recoup £15million of their initial fee at the moment.
And that’s where West Ham come in.
The Mirror reckons Sam Allardyce is hoping to lure Carroll to east London with the promise of linking up with good friend and former Newcastle teammate Kevin Nolan.
A major sticking point though is Carroll’s £80,000-a-week wages, which even West Ham and their ambitious board would struggle to match.
Carroll is apparently determined to prove his worth to new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers though and is to be given a good few weeks of pre-season to show that he can fit into the Northern Irishman’s plans.
It’s Newcastle and AC Milan who remain favourites to take the player on a season-long loan though and it’s hard to see beyond either of those bagging the striker – if Rodgers decides he won’t be part of his plans.
That remains a big ‘if’ though, with Carroll showing glimpses of his best form towards the end of last season and with England at the European Championships.
With the tabloids bereft of any massive transfer news this summer, this looks likes being the story which will run and run. And Run.
