Liverpool v Man City: Champions set to draw with Reds

Published:

Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Merseyside safe in the knowledge that the away side have not won at Anfield in the league since 2003.

But with the hosts poor in their opening day defeat to West Brom and City stuttering to a 3-2 win over newly-promoted Southampton, a draw may be on the cards at 11/5.

Last year this fixture ended 1-1, and a similar scoreline this season looks good value at 6/1.

Liverpool welcome back talismanic duo Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez after they were rested for the Reds mid-week Europa League victory over Hearts.

For the visitors, Roberto Mancini’s side will have to do without last season’s top scorer Sergio Aguero, Gareth Barry and Micah Richards.

However, despite losing this match heavily in the 2010/11 campaign, City can feel confident about returning to Eastlands with at least a point.

Three out of the Citizen’s last four trips to Anfield have yielded a draw, and Liverpool are far from firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Brendan Rodgers’ side got their campaign off to a nightmare start, sinking without a trace under three goals at the Hawthorns, while City took all three points in their opening fixture.

If you fancy the home side to shoot another blank against the champions, then a City clean sheet can be backed at 9/4.

The last time these two teams met was at Anfield in the Carling Cup, which finished 2-2 after 90 minutes. A repeat performance in the league is priced at 14/1.

In the goalscoring stakes, Carlos Tevez’s can be backed at 6/1 to break the deadlock after doing so first against Southampton.

For the home side it’s hard to look past slippery striker Luis Suarez, who is the same price to score first for Liverpool.

Italy’s Euro 2012 hero Mario Balotelli has yet to do much in the Premier League yet this season, but at 7/1 he could be worth keeping an eye on for last goalscorer.
