Mexico hot favourites to claim a maiden Miss World crown

Published:

Maria Brumen Reynoso looks set to be crowned Miss World 2012 with Ladbrokes taking bets on her at 9/4.

If Reynoso can justify her massive favouritism she will become the first Mexican to achieve the accolade in the competition’s 61-year history.

Miss Nepal is her closest rival in the betting at 7/1 but recent history does not support Shistri Shestra’s chances – there has only been one Asian Miss World winner in the last 11 years.

The reigning Miss World, Ivian Sarcos, hails from Venezuela and Gabriella Ferrari Peirano is the representative hoping to achieve consecutive successes for her country this time around.

Again, history weighs heavy against her chances as only three nations have managed to defend the crown, none since India in 1999 and 2000; none before that since the United Kingdom pulled off the feat in 1965.

Miss Wales is the United Kingdom’s best chance of success this term with odds of 10/1 available that Sophie Elizabeth Moulds is crowned in China.

Home favourite Wenxia Yu can be backed at 9/1 to become the second Chinese Miss World winner in three years of the nation hosting the award.

England’s chances in the contest are looking flimsy, to say the least, with Charlotte Holmes’ price of 20/1 along way back from the frontrunners.

It appears, however, that Reynoso is going to leave the others trailing by the wayside in the battle to be crowned Miss World which will be a massive achievement.

The standard of the upcoming pageant is exemplified, in my opinion, by the fact that Swedish beauty Sanna Jinnedal is unmentioned as a favourite to triumph.
