Tottenham make progress on securing Friedel replacement

Tottenham have been linked with Hugo Lloris for much of the period that Andre Villas-Boas has been manager and the transfer may finally go through on deadline day.

Reports from France suggest that Spurs and Lyon have reached an agreement over the French goalkeeper and that a medical is scheduled to take place this afternoon.

Even without Harry Redknapp in charge, Spurs still know how to snatch a bargain as the speculation is that the fee is only £9.5m for the 25-year-old, although bonuses could see this rise by a further £3m.

Villas-Boas is keen to bring a young goalkeeper to the squad, especially with Brad Friedel potentially in his last season now that he is 41.

Throw in the ages of current understudies Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini and this threesome have been alive for 110 years.

Villas-Boas has already stated that Lloris was among the best options on the market and he is now on the brink of getting his man.

Added to the news that a club record fee of £22m has been agreed for Joao Moutinho and the earlier arrival of Moussa Dembele, this has been a productive window for Spurs, even with the departure of Luka Modric.
