Port Vale v Oxford United: Hosts to continue good start to the season

Published:

Port Vale host Oxford United at Vale Park looking to tighten their grip on an automatic promotion spot in League Two.

A bright start to the season sees the home side at 10/11 to take all three points against 19th place Oxford United.

And having lost just twice in 11 league games this season, Micky Adams’ side will be confident of a victory to aid their quest to catch leaders Gillingham.

Fixtures between these two sides in the division over the past two seasons have not been shy of goals, with the last four clashes all yielding three goals.

Backing over 2.5 goals in this encounter looks a handy bet at 4/6, especially so when you consider Port Vale are the highest scoring League One side, finding the back of the net 25 times so far this season.

Last term the Vale completed a routine 3-0 win over Oxford on home soil, and backing the same scoreline this time around could prove valuable at 11/2.

The visitors have not had a great start to their campaign, so far unable to improve upon their 9th place finish in 2011/12.

However the U’s could shoot up the table with a win in the North West, and can be backed at 3/1 to take all three points home. The draw is 12/5.

But with Port Vale winning five of their last seven league games and Oxford recording just one victory during the same spell, anything but a home triumph seems unlikely.

If you want to back Vale’s supremacy then they are priced at 13/8 to be winning at half-time and full-time, something they have managed five times in the league so far.

In the goalscoring markets, the division’s leading marksman Tom Pope is hard to ignore, having struck a goal a game in League Two for his side.

The former Rotherham United forward is a good 9/2 bet to open the scoring, and at 20/1 might be worth a flutter to bag a hat-trick.

For the away side James Constable is at 7/1 to find the net first having broken his duck for the campaign last time out against Cheltenham in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
