Everton v Norwich: Can’t rule out the Canaries at Goodison

Published:

If any team is flying right now it’s Norwich who, after being battered by Liverpool and Chelsea, have gone on a five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League claiming the scalps of Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as knocking Tottenham out of the Capital One Cup.

These David-inspired heroics will mean the Canaries won’t fear Everton, despite them being ranked as mega 6/1 underdogs to win at Goodison Park. The hosts, who have won just one of their last six games, are very short at 4/9, while the draw can be backed at 10/3.

The Toffees unquestionably have the pointy means at their disposal to burst Norwich’s bubble but their price is a dangerous one to get involved with.

Chris Hughton is proving once again what a skilled coach he is with his exploits in Norfolk and nothing depicts this more than the way he has shored up the Canaries’ once permeable back line. Four clean sheets in five top-flight games is highly commendable and if their defensive game lives up to recent standards on Merseyside they can definitely claim a share of the spoils.

A second successive Norwich 0-0 on the road is available at 12/1, while 15/2 says the game will finish 1-1. If Everton bag more than one, however, the visitors are likely to find themselves in trouble given that the only game they’ve netted two goals in was their second consolation against Liverpool.

This is what makes the 10/3 saying Hughton’s charges will either win or draw the match with two goals or fewer scored in it an excellent bet.

Their record at Goodison, however, would argue against this – they’ve failed to win on any of their last five visits to Everton, ending a four-match losing run with a 1-1 draw in this fixture last term.

Grant Holt opened the scoring that day and he had the final say in the 2-2 draw played out at Carrow Road in the return fixture.
Norwich’s talisman is priced up at 9/1 to repeat either feat here, while he can be backed at a tasty-looking 3/1 to notch at any point the game.
