Shelvey is Suarez’ replacement for Liverpool against Young Boys
Published:Jonjo Shelvey has already been the scourge of Young Boys once in the Europa League this season and 2/1 is a big price that he scores against them again at Anfield if speculation is correct that he is to start as a lone ranger in attack.
Shelvey was introduced as a second-half substitute earlier in Group A in Switzerland and his late double was pivotal in a 5-3 success.
Brendan Rodgers is expected to name a fairly strong team for the return, with Liverpool 2/5 to claim the victory that could potentially secure their progress into the knockout stages of the Europa League.
However, with Luis Suarez having little chance for a rest of late, Rodgers does seem likely to leave out his chief goal-getter.
With little competition in attack for Suarez, apart from youngster Adam Morgan, Rodgers does have a slight headache on who to name to lead the line.
Shelvey did start the season as the most advanced of Liverpool’s central midfield trio and was fairly prolific in front of goal when sent out on loan to Blackpool last season, netting on his debut and then grabbing a hat-trick in a league fixture with Leeds.
It is a tempting 7/1 that Shelvey opens the scoring against Young Boys and 40/1 that he helps himself to a first hat-trick in Liverpool colours.
Meanwhile, 12/5 offers a little value on the wincast that Shelvey scores in the 90 minutes and Liverpool win.
Other predictions are that it will be Joe Cole and Oussama Assaidi that will be handed the chief supporting roles to Shelvey, with Suso sitting in a conventional midfield role alongside Jordan Henderson and Nuri Sahin.
Sahin has already scored three goals for Liverpool this season and is a tempting 16/1 to break the deadlock. While 9/2 is the price that he scores at any point in the 90 minutes.
