Lump on QPR for relegation if they see off Wigan

Despite being rooted to the foot of the Premier League table and without a win QPR are still a very backable 4/7 to get relegated.

The arrival of Harry Redknapp has instilled a new sense of optimism around Loftus Road but there’s a long way to go before QPR can have any realistic hopes of surviving the drop to the Championship.

Such has been their poor form this season that it’s hard to pick out any fixture and fancy them to win.

Home games against Fulham and West Brom over the Christmas period should provide a chance to pick up points but, despite Redknapp’s assurances that he’s pleased with the grit and determination shown by his players, getting three points from either of those encounters looks unlikely for the Hoops.

QPR are out at 21/10 to get their first win of the Premier League season at the DW this Saturday and, for the sake of the relegation betting market, that would be a brilliant result.

They could potentially still be five points off safety even with a victory but the shot of hope provided by a win at Wigan would surely see their odds on getting relegated lengthen to an even tastier price.

The west London side showed last season that they are capable of seeing off the Latics and dismissed them 3-1.

Admittedly that was at home and their last visit to Wigan ended in a 2-0 defeat but, with Roberto Martinz’s side losing four of their last five Premier League games, stranger things have happened than a QPR win.
