Mexican Rivera is a volatile jumper. Capable of producing leaps that threaten to clear the sand-pit some days, he’s developed a record of bottling it on the big occasions.

A disastrous attempt to qualify for the London Olympics saw him finish dismally in 32nd, but when taking on home-favourite Aleksandr Menkov in Kazan earlier in the campaign, he added an impressive 14cm to his own national record to beat the Russian, who looked set to win after landing his seasonal best of 8.42m himself.

Since that victory, Rivera has been far from his brilliant best, but he’s been strong enough to qualify for the final and, at such a beefy price, he’s definitely a worthy adversary to favourite Menkov.

Ryan Whiting to win Men’s Shot Put @ 1/2

American Whiting has shot put gold around his neck seemingly, such is his strength compared to the field.

Nobody has been able to thrown anywhere near his best effort this season of 22.28m. Compatriot Reese Hoffa – the only man in the final line up with a better personal best than Whiting – is the best part of 60cm behind in second in this respect.

He was undefeated throughout the indoor season and is an appropriate favourite to claim gold spoils here.

Mo Farah to win Men’s 5000m @ 4/9

Nation’s favourite Farah is set to pair his two Olympic golds across 10,000m and 5,000m with two World Championship equivalents.

He cruised to 10,000m victory earlier in the championships and proved his class on this stage by winning this event two years ago.

His electric closing speed is unrivalled, while his tactical astuteness was displayed during his 10,000m success last time out. He’s equipped with all the tools to see off those vying to steal the limelight from him here, namely Ethiopia’s Edwin Soi.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to win Women’s 200m @ 13/8

This race might be twice as long as reigning Olympic 100m champion would prefer it, but she can rival imperious Allyson Felix after taking silver in the London 2012 equivalent of this event.

Her season’s best comfortably betters her American adversary and she may well prove worthy opposition to claim her first World Championship gold outside the 100m discipline.
