Premier League return beckons for Jose Mourinho next season

Published:

Jose Mourinho looks set to end his three-year association with Real Madrid before the end of this season, which is sure to have chairmen across the continent on high alert.

A price as short as 11/10 says the Special One will be severing ties with the Spanish giants following by the time this campaign is out and a return to the Premier League looks on the cards if current betting patterns are to be read into.

If he does leave, it’s seemingly nailed on that he assumes control at the Etihad, where speculation regarding Roberto Mancini’s future refuses to die down. It’s only marginally longer at 5/4 that Mourinho is in charge of Manchester City come the start of next season, where his glowing Champions League record gives him the upper hand over the resident Citizens coach.

It would appear that the only way Mancini can save his job (despite winning a trophy in every full season he’s been at the City helm) is by retaining the Premier League crown, but with the team sitting seven points behind their Manchester neighbours in the title race, achieving this feat multiplies in difficulty each week.

Mourinho has a penchant for short-term projects and would revel spending City’s billions on the world’s elite before moving on in a few years, but they wouldn’t care if it meant winning the Champions League.

A sensational return to Chelsea is the next mooted destination and can be backed at 7/2.

Given the falling foul of Roman Abramovich that hastened his 2007 departure, it’s difficult to imagine either party keen to link up again. Plus, with most of the old guard either gone or on the way out, he would have to rebuild pretty much the entire Chelsea team; he had the nucleus of a great side already in place when he originally took charge at Stamford Bridge.

Paris Saint-Germain are an attractive prospect to be the Portuguese’s next club at 4/1. Although the French league is not the most revered on the continent, PSG have the resources at their disposal build a team that can compete for Europe’s top trophy and this is certain to attract his interest.
