Trump versus Hawkins clash offers great bets in the Masters

| 14.01.2013

The third day of the Masters throws up some interesting bets that present punters with decent opportunities to profit on both matches.

Judd Trump v Barry Hawkins

Hawkins could be worth a punt in this one as media darling Trump is heavy 2/7 favourite despite losing two of his three clashes with his next adversary. At 11/4 in a two-horse race, the underdog’s match betting price is the first example of some excellent Masters value on offer with Ladbrokes.

The break markets are another area where some nuggets of value can be unearthed on this clash between youth and experience.

Trump is a prolific century-maker and, having notched 40 of them already this term, he’s on course to break his personal best seasonal haul of 45 ton plus visits to the felt. A price of 7/2 says he will run in two century breaks in this match which seems a decent price given the rate at which he’s been racking them up throughout the campaign.

The best bet on this one, however, has to be the 11/8 dictating that there will be over nine frames contested when this pair next square off.

Only one of their three meetings to date has failed to go the distance and this only fell one frame short after Trump won the eighth frame in a race to nine and claimed a 5-3 win.

Shaun Murphy v Ricky Walden

The Magician steamrollered those who stood in his way in rounds one and two of the recently concluded UK Championship, of which he eventually reached the final, and his price to overcome the unfancied Ricky Walden with a -1.5 frame handicap applied should be considered.

At 4/6, this bet is not going to pay for that Ferrari you had your eye on (unless you really go for it!) but it’s as good a price as you’re likely to get on a player who has thrived in this event in the past.

He’s made the final on three occasions and completed a hat-trick of wins over Walden when the pair last locked horns. Each of these victories were by a margin sufficient to see the handicap bet cop and should be good for a few quid.

In terms of specific winning margins, two of the aforementioned three victories were by two frames and a one or two frame-triumph to ensure Murphy’s advancement pays out at a steady 12/5.
