Michu has it perfect at Swansea and so he must stay this summer

In all walks of life, people need to learn to keep hold of a good thing when they have it and although Michu’s stock is currently at its peak at Swansea, leaving in the summer must surely be considered a foolhardy move.

Robbie Savage may have taken it slightly too far when comparing Michu’s impact to that of Eric Cantona at Manchester United just over two decades ago, but it cannot in any way be argued that both are masterstrokes in the transfer market.

Michu has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season and helped Swansea win a first major trophy in the Capital One Cup.

He has certainly become the main man at the club and there must be a temptation to move onto bigger things in the summer if the opportunity arises.

It is 6/4 that Michu does depart Swansea before the end of the summer transfer window, but he will not have to look far for proof that leaving for a bigger club is not all that it is cracked up to be.

In the words of Cher, if Scott Sinclair “could turn back time”, there is a strong possibility he would pass up the chance to join Manchester City and remain a part of Swansea’s development.

Scott Parker’s career took an extended period to take off when leaving Charlton for Chelsea and going back even further, Alan Brazil failed to justify the hype at either Tottenham or Man Utd after shining for Ipswich.

Steven Pienaar has taken it one stage further by returning to Everton after a failed spell at Tottenham and has rediscovered some of his better form at Goodison Park.

Having played approximately 100 games for both Oviedo and Celta without doing anything particular of note, things improved at Rayo Vallecano, but it has been at Swansea where Michu has really blossomed, particularly since moving into the lone striker role.

Michu is 1/2 to still be at Swansea after the closing of the summer transfer window and it would surely take a monumental offer to persuade them to sell.

Things are almost perfect for Michu at Swansea, in terms of that he is the focal point of a developing club, he is well settled with a few fellow Spaniards around him and is loved by the supporters.

These things are hard to put a price on, but he is certainly not guaranteed such a strong hand at a new club and so his best bet has to be to remain at Swansea for the foreseeable future.
