Heineken Cup Accumulator: Ulster win holds key to value

It’s quarter-final time in the Heineken Cup and the last-eight gets underway with the all-French tie of Clermont v Montpellier.

Clermont have a European record second only to Harlequins this season, and Les Jaunards ran out 36-18 victors against Montpellier in January.

The visitors have won their last two away games, but it’s hard to look beyond a side with a perfect home record in domestic and European competition this year.

Clermont have been hammering in the points too at the Parc des Sports Marcel Michelin, averaging 53 points in their last three home games, and 1/6 is a solid price to kick off a quarter-final accumulator.

Saracens host Ulster at Twickenham in the second of the weekend’s games, and it’s last year’s finalists at 7/4 who we think are the side to back and bump up the accumulator value.

The Northern Irish outfit are set to welcome Tommy Bowe back to the squad, and arrive in London full of confidence after a moral-boosting win over Leinster in the RDS final last weekend.

Sunday’s action begins at Twickenham Stoop, were Harlequins welcome Munster to London, with the visitors losing the last three on their travels.

Harlequins have won five of seven at home in 2013, and have been leading at half-time in three of their last four, which leads to our selection of 8/11 on ‘Quins to win half-time/full-time.

The final tussle for a semi-final place sees Leicester visit Toulon. The British side are second in the Aviva Premiership, and had a perfect March record with three wins from three, but they head to the south-French coast as firm underdogs.

Toulon, leaders in France’s Top 14, have been imperious at home lately, winning their last five at the Stade Mayol, including convincing victories against Biarritz, Toulouse and Montpellier.

Toulonto win at 1/4 is our final selection as the Heineken Cup heads toward the business end of the campaign for an accumulator price of 6.93/1.
