Heineken Cup: 3 best bets for Toulon v Saracens

Published:

It’s Toulon v Saracens, France v England, and Jonny Wilkinson v Owen Farrell in what promises to be an enthralling Heineken Cup final at the Millennium Stadium.

And to help you run the rule over the action in Cardiff, Oliver Yew has come up with Ladbrokes News’ three best bets for European rugby’s showpiece final.

Saracens (+3) @ 5/6

Defending champions Toulon ended Saracens’ tilt at Heineken Cup glory last year and they will be just as desperate for a repeat this year in Jonny Wilkinson’s last European game.

But Saracens are saying goodbye to their own legend with skipper Steve Borthwick calling time on his own career and with the English club are a much improved outfit this season, we are backing them for glory this year at 5/4.

With four of the last six Heineken Cup finals decided by a three point margin or less, our best bet is backing Saracens at 5/6 in the handicap market with a +3 point advantage appeals.

Chris Ashton to be 1st Tryscorer @ 9/1

The Saracens winger was bang on the money in his side’s impressive victory over Clermont in the semi-final and at 9/1 with Ladbrokes we are backing the England man to cross the tryline first once again.

Ashton, who has scored four tries in his last five appearances for the club, has been flying of late and during the semi-final he broke Brive winger Sebastien Carrat’s  17-year-old record for the number of tries scored in the tournament.

If 1st Try Scorer is not the market for you then back the former Rugby League star to score at anytime at odds of 12/5 with the bookie.

Jonny Wilkinson Specials – Last scoring play Wilkinson Drop Goal @ 33/1

The heart has overruled the head with our final selection as we look for Johnny Wilkinson to cap his European rugby career in fairytale fashion.

Who could forget that famous night in Sydney when Wilko’s swing of the right boot sealed the Webb Ellis Trophy for England?

Just like all those years ago and in true Hollywood blockbuster fashion we are backing the 34-year-old to break Saracens hearts with a last-gasp drop goal!

Come on, it’s definitely worth £1! #The Believer
