Dortmund v Real Madrid: Goals for both in German first-leg win

Published:

Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Real Madrid will represent the fourth meeting of the sides this season, and second to come at Westfalenstadion.

And with 2-1 the prevailing scoreline in the group-stage fixture in Germany, some may get behind the possibility of a repeat at 10/1 here.

However, whilst many trends covered by that result may be adhered to, it looks wisest to focus on total result markets, and match betting with both teams to score in order for punters to gain added security in their bid to turn a profit.

Jurgen Klopp’s hosts, 9/5 to simply claim a first-leg advantage, are 19/5 to emerge victorious from a match in which both defences are breached, and such an instance has occurred in half of their six European triumphs this term.

That includes their aforementioned tie with Real, where a bet on Die Borussen winning a game involving at least 2.5 goals would have also paid dividends.

31/10 is the price that that is again the case, and it should be noted that of this pairing’s combined 20 European outings this term, 14 have featured in excess of 2.5 strikes.

A big nine of those matches have seen the net bulge four or more times also, and so at 33/20, a repetition of those circumstances seems plausible.

Meanwhile, there will be some that feel if anyone can scupper Dortmund’s 100 per cent Champions League home record this term, it is Jose Mourinho’s men.

As such, they are likely to see some support as 6/4 chances in match betting markets, whilst the 12/5 draw may also experience investment, in light of the teams playing out a 2-2 stalemate at the Bernabeu earlier in the tournament.

The fact that the visitors have the competition’s top scorer at their disposal in Cristiano Ronaldo could also inspire confidence in the away side, with the Portuguese forward notching 11 seasonal European strikes.

Seven of those have come in his five away appearances, so 5/6 looks a reasonable price he finds the net at any time, whilst the former Manchester United star is 7/2 to break the deadlock.
