Haye the big favourite as Fury fight on the brink of being booked

David Haye has already triumphed in two all-British heavyweight encounters in his last three fights and he is a heavyweight favourite at 2/9 to complete the hat-trick if a date with Tyson Fury is successfully negotiated for the coming months.

Haye has already signed for a September 28th showdown and now the ball is in the court of the unbeaten Fury, who was also called out by Tony Thompson after his second consecutive knock-out of another British heavyweight challenger David Price.

It is believed that an agreement has been reached as to who takes what from the final purse, with the final hold-ups thought to relate to final TV documentation.

A world title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers is the ultimate aim for both fighters and although this all-British affair would not be a championship eliminator, it would put the winner in a strong position.

Haye has not had the busiest of comebacks since reversing his decision to retire, stopping Dereck Chisora in five rounds a year ago.

He was initially due to build on that performance with a clash against Lebanon-born German Manuel Charr, but was forced to pull out of this encounter because of a hand injury sustained in training.

Meanwhile, Fury beat Vinny Maddalone at pretty much the same time as Haye was dealing with Chisora, but interestingly has been kept sharp with another two wins since, beating another pair of Americans in Kevin Johnson and Steve Cunningham.

The fact he is the younger fighter, the bigger man and has been the busier in the ring may lend weight to Fury’s price of 3/1 to beat Haye.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Fury previously said that it has been a goal to face Haye since turning professional and not only believes he would win a fight between the two, but would do so by stoppage.

He added: “You’ve got to give it to him, he’s very fast, he’s an explosive puncher and a former world champion, so it’s going to look better when I knock him out.

“Work-rate is the key, heart and determination, fitness and stamina. If you keep knocking a stone with a hammer it’s going to break. That’s what’s going to happen to David Haye. He’s going to break.”
