Ohuruogu can land second World Championship gold in relay

Published:

Mo Farah and Christine Ohuruogu have already ensured that Great Britain have celebrated gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow and the women’s 4x400m relay team look overpriced to add to the victory haul.

Considering the British team will be able to call on the champion of the individual event, 16/1 is certainly worth taking that Ohuruogu can double up with relay gold.

This is an event where Britain have already tasted success in the European Indoor Championships this year and they can call upon the same team in Moscow.

Joining Ohuruogu will be 400m hurdles World Championship finalists Perri Shakes-Drayton and Eilidh Child, another pair to have posted new personal bests in the 400m flat in 2013.

The fourth member Shana Cox cannot boast the same feat, but she did finish second in the British trials behind Ohuruogu. Alternatively, Anyika Onuora has improved rapidly after stepping up from the shorter sprints and is also pushing for a starting spot.

It is no surprise that the US team are favourites at 1/3, but their best athlete at the discipline is Sanya Richards-Ross, who misses Moscow because of a toe injury.

Only two of their athletes made the 400m final too and based on personal bests, they do not have much in hand on Britain.

Russia and Jamaica are the others that head Britain in the women’s 400m betting, but despite having two athletes each in the individual final, their depth is not particularly strong.

Jamaica have finished runners up to the US in the last three World Championship finals of this event and they are another to consider at a slightly bigger price of 10/1.
