Euro trend points punters towards Spain in Miss World

As the Miss World 2013 judges prepare to crown the finest female specimen on the planet in Bali, it may be worth considering an interesting trend.

With the waiting nearly over to see who will be bestowed the honour of Miss World 2013, the market is pointing to one of three winners.

Heading the trio of beauties is Miss Brazil at 3/1, while there is nothing to separate Miss Philippines from Miss Spain in the betting currently, with both women considered 5/1 shots.

The fact the next nine closest contestants sit as far back as 16/1 shows this contest has turned into a three-horse race.

Miss Brazil, Sancler Frantz, is bidding to become the second representative of her nation to win the most prestigious of all beauty pageants after compatriot Lucia Petterle way back in 1971.

Meanwhile, there is no shortage of interest surrounding the local favourite Miss Philippines, Megan Young, who like her Brazilian rival did her chances no harm by being selected as one of the top-10 models in the preliminary catwalk competition.

However, weighing heavily in the favour of Miss Spain, Elena Ibarbia Jimenez, aside from her dazzling complexion of course, is a historical continental trend.

Since 1990 when Miss U.S A reigned supreme, there has not been a longer gap than three years between winners who hail from Europe.

The last three winners of the contest since Miss Gibraltar claimed the 2009 prize have been from North and South America and Asia, with current Miss World Yu Wenxia coming from China.

In theory therefore, 18-year-old Miss Spain has already got one expensively manicured hand on the world’s top beauty prize.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
