Benzema could be hawked out to Arsenal to make room for Suarez

Rumours are afoot that Arsenal have been offered the services of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema for a cut-price £20m come January, as manager Carlo Ancelotti prepares to raid Liverpool for the rebellious Luis Suarez.

One of the surprises of the summer transfer window was that no matter how much Suarez shamefully expressed his desires to move to Real Madrid, the Spanish giants still left him to hang in the end by not making a widely expected bid.

In the end, it seems that securing the services of a certain Welshman became the sole obsession of Real president Florentino Perez.

For incoming boss Ancelotti, it’s probably the case that he did not have a huge say in transfer activity in this window having just arrived at the club, though he probably wished to assess the players at his disposal on the pitch before making demands on Perez.

Well, after a few months getting to grips with his squad it appears French international Benzema has failed to cut the mustard with the Italian, having returned just two La Liga goals from eight appearances.

While this may be harsh on Benzema, who has hit 20+ goals for Los Merengues in his last three seasons, knowing that Suarez is still intent on a move makes the Uruguayan a ready-made replacement.

The Real Madrid hierarchy are also aware that Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of his fellow countryman, though the frugal Arsenal boss has previously been put off by a £40m valuation.

Arsenal may be doing well with Olivier Giroud leading the line solo at present, but if the Gunners are to seriously challenge on all fronts this season, then signing another top quality striker is pivotal and Benzema fits the frame.

The Londoners are currently priced at 9/2 to win the Premier League and 5/4 to beat Borussia Dortmund in their next Champions League fixture at the Emirates after the international break.
