Celtic to stun Barcelona again in Champions League

Published:

One of the stand-out results of last season was Celtic’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League group stages, but given the Spanish side’s poor away record in Europe, there could easily be a repeat this time around.

Barcelona have only won two of their past eight away games in the Champions League, and Celtic have only lost three of 24 at home, making backing the Scottish side and the draw in the double chance market at 19/10 a good option.

The Blaugrana will be without Lionel Messi, and although they have a cluster of other stars including summer signing Neymar to call on, no-one can replace the Argentine.

Messi scored eight goals in the Champions League last season, with left-back Jordi Alba the only other player from the Spanish side to score more than one in the competition.

Barcelona have failed to scored in half of their past eight Champions League matches, which will give Celtic further hope of holding out.

Celtic almost claimed a draw in their opening game away at AC Milan, and the Italian side will face another stern test away at Ajax.

The Dutch side might have lost their past two away games 4-0, to Barcelona and PSV, but bounced back with a 6-0 home win over Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivise at the weekend.

Milan have already drawn in the Netherlands this season, 1-1 at PSV in their qualifying play-off, and have not beaten a Dutch team in their past five games in the Champions League proper.

The Italian side have been poor away from home this term, drawing three and losing one of their four matches in all competitions, and another stalemate could be worth backing at 12/5.

Ajax are unbeaten at home since February, and although they lost heavily in Amsterdam to Dortmund and Real Madrid in the group stage last year, they beat Manchester City 3-1 to demonstrate their potential to cause an upset.
