Champions League Group C Previews: PSG and Anderlecht offer best bets

Published:

Paris St-Germain v Benfica

The two sides fancied to advance from Group C kicked off their Champions League campaigns with three points and will collide at the Parc de Princes with the victor taking a big stride towards top-of-the-table qualification.

The Parisians are undefeated in 10 outings in all comps this term, but have dropped unexpected points at home in Ligue 1, which will encourage their Lisbon-originating adversaries here. Benfica are available to win the game at 7/2 with Ladbrokes in the wake of the hosts’ 4/5 and the 5/2-rated draw.

If the Eagles are to pick up an unlikely result in France, however, they’ll have to contain PSG’s electric strike duo of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani who, between them, have bagged at least once in all bar one of their side’s games since the opening league clash of the season.

It comes as no surprise to see the pair claiming first and second favouritism to be the first goalscorer in this game, with mercurial Swede Ibrahimovic priced at 3/1 and his Uruguayan partner in crime a 9/2 shot to achieve this feat.

Anderlecht v Olympiacos

With the group’s two heavyweights at loggerheads in the French capital, the unlikely lads have a chance to make amends for defeats in week one, though this is more a contest to determine which side claims the Europa League spot.

Olympiacos can be backed to bounce back from their PSG drubbing by winning in Belgium at 2/1, with the draw a 23/10 alternative, but it’s the hosts’ record against Greek outfits that makes their 11/8 the bet to side with here.

Of the six games they’ve played against teams from this nation at home, they’re yet to lose a match, winning four of them.

In addition to this, they come into the match following four successive home victories, scoring 16 goals in that time.

A home win in a match consisting of over 2.5 goals is well worth a flutter at 14/5.
