Chelsea v Cardiff: Mata can inspire Chelsea to surpass two goals

Published:

Chelsea have got into the habit of scoring exactly two goals in Premier League games at Stamford Bridge, performing the trick eight times in a row, but with Cardiff in town and in fine form they can finally take it up a notch.

Third-place Chelsea host Cardiff in a very good run of form which has only seen Tottenham prevent them from winning in five games across all competitions, by taking a point at White Hart Lane.

In terms of all the fixtures this weekend, Chelsea’s odds of 1/4 to prevail over newly promoted Cardiff look about the most justified of any odds-on price in the top-flight, especially when you factor in the 10 wins from their last 11 games played at the Bridge.

Despite this, no one is yet purring over Jose Mourinho’s new-look Blues, as the general consensus is that they are still some way off hitting the peak they are capable of, whilst their three main strikers have yet to score a Premier League goal between them.

Nevertheless, seven goals have been scored in their last two games and Mourinho should certainly keep Juan Mata’s revival going after the playmaker notched for Spain in their last World Cup qualifier.

Since coming on to change the game against Spurs at half time, the diminutive number 10 has started both of Chelsea’s most recent games and it’s been no surprise to see the Blues go on to score more than twice in both matches, something they failed to do without him in the line-up previously.

It’s a tempting 7/1 he nets first with Ladbrokes, while 7/4 to score anytime looks a punt worth taking also.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s recent burst of goals, which saw them rack up three at Norwich, gives clues that they can finally break free from the two goals shackles on their own turf in the Premier League.

Evens should be taken on over 2.5 Chelsea goals being scored, while a Blues victory by two goals at 3/1 feels appropriate.
