Ferguson could top table again by Christmas say punters
Published:Roy Keane may not be rushing out to buy Sir Alex Ferguson’s imaginatively named ‘My Autobiography’, but the headline-making book is set to be so popular with the public, that punters are rushing to back it to top the festive literary charts.
There were always going to be fireworks when Ferguson released his highly-anticipated chronicle of his life, namely focusing on his time as the most successful manager in English football history at Manchester United.
The seldom self-restrained Scot certainly hasn’t disappointed either, with former United players such as David Beckham and the aforementioned Keane, among those singled out for some acid-tongued appraisals.
And with so much of the dirty laundry already splashed across the papers, punters have piled on with Ladbrokes that the autobiography will top the official UK book chart at Christmas.
As a result Ladbrokes have slashed the book’s odds from 8/1 to 4/1 to scoop this accolade.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Ferguson has got form in the book when it comes to topping tables and punters are convinced he’ll see off his rivals for the festive number one spot.
“He now also looks certain to come out on top in the sales clash with Beckham.”
Up until now, Beckham’s autobiographical release ‘My Side’ (511,000 sales to date) has remained the biggest-selling football biography or autobiography of all time, but Ladbrokes have it at 1/4 that ‘My Autobiography’ surpasses those figures, while it’s 2/1 to sell over 1,000,000 copies.
Nevertheless, Ferguson’s book will still face stiff competition to top the 2013 Xmas book charts, from 5/4 favourite ‘Save with Jamie’ by Jamie Oliver and Helen Fielding’s latest Bridget Jones instalment: Mad About the Boy at 5/2.
Oliver has held top spot at the Christmas dinner table for the past two years in this market with different cookbooks.
