Khan’s promoter gives him edge over Bradley to face Mayweather

Published:

The fact that Timothy Bradley can now add Juan Manuel Marquez to a list of beaten opposition, which already includes the names of Devon Alexander and Manny Pacquiao, could potentially be regarded as enough of a reason on its own to make him next in line to face Floyd Mayweather.

Also in Bradley’s favour is that he remains unbeaten through his 32 professional bouts, which would give an obvious tagline to a Mayweather fight as both boxers have never lost, alongside being a two-weight world champion and being proven at welterweight.

All of these elements arguably make Bradley more deserving of a crack at Mayweather over Amir Khan, who lacks the big-name victories on his resume and the recent form, having lost two of his last four fights.

However, what Khan does have in his favour and what could end up being extremely significant is that is promoted by Golden Boy, while Bradley utilises the services of Top Rank.

Mayweather has not found negotiating with Top Rank a simple process previously, particularly in efforts in recent years to thrash out terms for the most monstrous of mega fights with Pacquiao.

The promotion companies have been at least partly blamed for the failure of this fight and so Mayweather may wish to avoid getting drawn into a similar set of discussions over a possible bout with Bradley.

As for Khan, he is represented by Golden Boy, which is a company that has at least co-promoted each of Mayweather’s last eight fights.

Therefore, this should make life a lot easier in terms of agreeing terms to fight Khan, especially as the Brit is on a similar level as Bradley when it comes to their pulling power in securing high pay-per-view buy rates.

Should Khan tie down a fight with Mayweather in the near future, with May 3rd earmarked as a possible date, it is 6/1 that Khan triumphs, with Money 1/10 to extend his record to 46-0.
