Back Lewis to claim a third World Championship title

Adrian Lewis may have come up short at the Grand Slam of Darts but his form in Wolverhampton can see him lift a third World Championship crown in the New Year.

Defeat to Phil Taylor in an epic semi-final may have been a blow to Lewis’ title chances at the Civic Hall earlier this month but a 110.99 three dart average in the match would have softened the blow as Jackpot showed the kind of scoring power which has already seen him claim two world titles.

In the end the difference between the two Stoke throwers, who broke the record for the highest combined average between two players, was Taylor’s finishing prowess, but Lewis is not getting too downhearted by the defeat.

Lewis added: “If you average 111 and you lose, you can’t do much about it. You just take it on the chin and move on.”

That is exactly what the three-time major winner needs to do as it was not all doom and gloom for Lewis at the Grand Slam as victories over Michael van Gerwen, Kim Huybrechts and Christian Kist proved.

In particular, victory over Mighty Mike would have provided the world number three, who threw a three dart average of 105.24 and 12 maximum scores, with a huge confidence boost ahead of the season ending tournament in north London.

The 28-year-old’s major weapon is his scoring power and with that back in abundance at the Grand Slam, added to the fact he is in the familiar surroundings of the Alexandra Palace – the scene of his two world championship wins – and Lewis could be a contender for the biggest prize in world darts again.

So backing the Englishman at 9/2 to win his third world title could be a shrewd investment come the New Year.
