Cardiff v Man Utd: Red Devils to terrorise Welsh strugglers

Published:

David Moyes has got his Manchester United boys firing after early teething complaints and the Red Devils win wagon is back on the road to south Wales, where they’ll sample similar delights to those they savoured on the opening day of the season.

United are an attractively priced 11/20 to prevail on their maiden visit to the Cardiff City Stadium, with the red-breasted Bluebirds at 5/1 and the draw a 3/1 shout.

Since being decked by West Brom at Old Trafford, United have strung together nine without defeat in all competitions, winning six of these as they frantically shovel coal into the engine of their title train.

Couple this fine form with Moyes’ excellent record in the principality – the Scot has masterminded three wins from as many visits in charge of both the Red Devils and Everton – and the enormity of Cardiff’s task becomes apparent.

It’s also important to note that Malky Mackay’s men are giving up an average of 18.3 shots per outing in the league this season. It’s the second highest total in the division and if United are afforded the same privileges then it’s difficult to imagine them not scoring a hatful.

Over 2.5 away goals is not out of the question with this stat in mind, so don’t dismiss the 9/5 that says it comes in here; United have already achieved the feat in two of their five away games.

Aside from a shock 3-2 win over Manchester City, Cardiff have never bagged more than one goal at home in the Premier League, blanking against their other two guests from last term’s top six in Everton and Tottenham.

Despite the fact that United are yet to keep a clean sheet on the road when not in Europe this season, they became the first side to stop Arsenal scoring in the league in the current campaign. This renders a 33/20-rated away win to nil remains a real possibility as the champions continue their rapid ascent.
