Dortmund v Arsenal: Expect both teams to score in Germany

Published:

Borussia Dortmund love playing at home. The Black and Yellows won all six of their matches at the Westfalenstadion in the Champions League last season and made it to the final, only to lose 2-1 to Bayern Munich.

Dortmund struggled in their first match of this season’s Champions League, losing 2-1 at Napoli, but two wins in their last two would suggest that result was just a blip. A 3-0 victory against Marseille helped to maintain their excellent recent record at home, whilst a recent win at Arsenal showed their strength on the road too.

Whilst Arsene Wenger may be confident after his side extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory against Liverpool, he should be wary of Dortmund’s current form outside of the Champions League too. Jurgen Klopp’s men returned to the top of the Bundesliga after a thumping 6-1 victory at home to Schalke.

Borussia Dortmund are 4/6 to beat Arsenal

Arsenal have had success on the road in Europe already this season, beating Marseille 2-0, but it is almost impossible to look past Dortmund netting at home. They have scored three or more goals in their last four Champions League matches at the Westfalenstadion and whilst they have in-form Robert Lewandoski at their disposal, the Gunners will be without the influential Mathieu Flamini who is still suffering from a groin injury.

You can get Dortmund to score +2.5 at a very respectable 9/5

A home victory may look likely, but recent history suggests Arsenal will not lie down. Wenger’s side came came close to a victory in the same fixture in 2011, only to concede an equaliser with two minutes to go.

They have scored in their last five Champions League matches away from home, whilst five of their last six away have resulted in both teams scoring. With players such as Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey both hitting a rich vein of form, it would be a surprise not to see the away side grab a goal or two once again.

Dortmund to win and both teams to score is 21/10
