Dortmund v Arsenal: Gunners to make their point felt in Germany

Published:

Arsene Wenger bemoaned his side’s gung-ho approach during their home loss to Dortmund in Group F of the Champions League, as he felt Arsenal should have settled for a point rather than chasing a winner and being undone as they were.

However, after an intravenous injection of belief for this highly-talented Arsenal side with victory over Liverpool in the Premier League which sent them five points clear, the Gunners have it in them to get a positive result in Dortmund.

An away win is understandably long at 7/2, as Dortmund are notoriously strong at home, having won their last seven Champions League games in front of their colourful home support.

Still, the draw is an attractive looking 3/1 shot and judging by the Gunners’ recent form and importantly their last few trips to Germany in this competition, they can escape without a very damaging defeat.

After all, Arsenal were one of only three teams to have beaten treble-winning Bayern Munich last season and only the second to have defeated them at the Allianz Arena during that all-conquering campaign for the Bavarians, when they came away with a shock 2-0 triumph.

That result back in March, which came during a torrid spell for Arsenal, can actually be viewed as a catalyst for their incredible run which has carried on through to this season and with many of the squad still present, it only adds to the general levels of confidence.

Furthermore, it was only in the season previous – when Dortmund became German champions for the second year in a row – that Arsenal left the Westfalenstadion with a 1-1 draw in the Champions League group stages, where only an 88th equaliser prevented the Gunners from stealing all three points.

This will not be an easy task, but Arsenal have the experience and skill within their squad to get something from the game.
