Chisora ready to realise world title ambition in 2014
Published:Dereck Chisora’s career trajectory can continue on an upward curve in 2014 with the European heavyweight champion ready to take on the division’s best in the ring.
Chisora (19-4) is priced at 4/1 to win one of the sport’s respected world titles (WBA, WBC, WBC or IBF) and the London fighter offers plenty of value to secure a coveted prize in the next 12 months.
Following three defeats in a row to Robert Helnius, Vitali Klitschko and David Haye respectively, not to mention a much-publicised spat with the latter that led to his boxing licence being rescinded, Delboy has been slowly rebuilding his tarnished reputation.
And four consecutive knockout victories have thrust Chisora back into world title contention with the London fighter now ranked number six in the world by the WBC.
With Vitali Klitschko relinquishing his belt from the aforementioned organising body and moving full-time into politics, Frank Warren’s charge has a serious chance of entering the reckoning for world honours.
American prospect Deontay Wilder already appears to be avoiding Chisora, however, Warren will no doubt be on the look-out for other potential opponents.
A victory in his next European title defence, scheduled for the early part of 2014, will only enhance Delboy’s credentials.
Meanwhile, Kell Brook (31-0) is the favourite to land a world title with Ladbrokes assessing a number of British fighters’ chances of glory.
Unbeaten Brook is 5/6 to successfully achieve welterweight stardom.
A shot at IBF king Shawn Porter could be on the horizon while talk of a domestic showdown with Amir Khan would almost certainly guarantee a world title bout were The Special One to emerge victorious.
