Manchester United ditch La Liga targets in favour of Inter man

| 16.12.2013

With the opening of the transfer window creeping nearer with every passing rumour, Manchester United boss David Moyes seems determined to succeed where he failed in the summer, by bringing in a creative midfielder.

In order to do that, the Scot seems to be leaving no stone unturned when it comes to sounding out potential playmakers.

Along with being linked to Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, who Moyes watched play in the Spanish side’s 2-0 Champions League win over Porto, the Man Utd boss is also said to be sweet on bringing Inter Milan’s Colombian, Fredy Guarin, to Old Trafford.

Since making his 2012 loan move permanent that same year, Guarin has made 47 appearances for the Nerazurri, scoring seven goals.

Having missed out on Thiago, Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera over the sunnier months, United’s midfield has come in for some criticism during this term’s struggles for lacking the necessary guile to break teams down.

They find themselves 13 points off the Premier League’s summit, which leaves them as 28/1 shots to win the title, and look certain to add to their squad during January as they try to play catch up in the race to defend their crown.

Guarin, who is a versatile midfielder with three Serie A goals and an equal number of assists to his name this season, would certainly add quality to United’s middle section and Inter’s lack of participation in Europe would allow the former Porto man to join in with United’s Champions League endeavours.

The move could work in Inter’s favour too, with often benched striker Javier Hernandez potentially available to the one-time Italian giants in a swap deal.

With playing time at a premium under Moyes, Hernandez will likely be keen to fly the nest too with Mexico’s World Cup campaign on the horizon.
