Stoke v Chelsea: Blues to continue excellent run at the Britannia

Published:

The Britannia Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Chelsea since Stoke returned to the top flight five years ago and with Jose Mourinho’s team hitting their stride in the title race, you can expect their dominance to continue on Saturday with an abundance of goals in the process.

The Blues, who are 8/13 with Ladbrokes for victory, have sealed three wins and two draws in their last five matches on the road against a Potters side who are 9/2 for the three points, while the draw is 11/4.

You have to go back all the way to April 1975 to find a Chelsea defeat at the Britannia and last season, the Blues ran riot in the Potteries with a 4-0 victory, and with decent away form, since their shock defeat to Newcastle last month, anticipate much of the same for Mourinho’s men.

The Europa League champions have fired seven goals on their way to back-to-back away victories against West Ham and last night’s 4-3 win over Sunderland.

And with Stoke only winning once in their last six home games, odds of 13/8 on Chelsea to win and over 2.5 goals to be scored in the match looks tempting.

Also, in their past four Premier League fixtures the Pensioners have hit two or more goals and at 23/20 they look a good price to extend that run in Staffordshire with 2-3 goals.

Elsewhere, with Sunderland, despite defeat, proving goals can be scored against a shaky Blues defence, Jon Walters can put to bed his nightmare from this fixture last season and find the net at the right end of the pitch for Stoke.

The Republic of Ireland forward, who was the inadvertent hero for Chelsea in the same fixture just over a year ago after scoring two own goals, can be backed at 10/3 to score anytime for Stoke.

The 30-year-old is 10/1 to make an instant impact and score the first goal of the match for the hosts, while he is 200/1 to go from hero to zero in the eyes of the west London faithful by scoring a hat-trick.
