Length of Solskjaer’s Cardiff stay questioned after unveiling
Published:Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken the seemingly most poisoned chalice in football by agreeing to work for Vincent Tan as Cardiff City’s new manager.
Such is the volatile nature of the Bluebirds’ Malaysian owner that despite only just being unveiled as Malky Mackay’s replacement, Ladbrokes have gone 5/1 that the former Manchester United striker fails to see out the season in the Welsh club’s dugout.
For those who believe that Solskjaer’s stay will be even shorter lived, they can take up the 20/1 on offer for the Norwegian to be given his marching orders before the first month of 2014 is out.
The thorny relationship between Mackay and Tan came to a rather predictable head over the festive period with the owner growing increasingly annoyed with his manager, most notably over what he believed to be overspending in the summer.
That led to Tan publically refusing Mackay a single penny in further funds during the current transfer window, but with new man Solskjaer now at the helm Ladbrokes believe Tan will resolve to open his chequebook once again.
It’s 5/2 that the baby-faced boss breaks the club’s transfer record in January, a mark which currently stands at £11m for midfielder Gary Medel. With the club sat one spot and one point above the relegation zone, a New Year spending spree looks likely as Solskjaer tries to stave off relegation, an unwanted feat that is currently 6/4 to occur.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said:”Cardiff’s relegation odds suggest they may need to break the bank in January to guarantee safety. We’ll be watching Solskjaer’s sack race odds closely if results don’t go his way from the off.”
