Man Utd player short price to manage West Ham within five years

According to veteran Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand, he sees himself taking up the reigns of one of London’s Premier League club’s within the next five years.

The former England international, 35, is widely expected to hang up his boots this summer following another injury-ravaged season at Old Trafford and he made his claims in a Q & A session on social media site Twitter.

Rio responded to a question about where he would be in five years time by saying: “Alive, in London and the manager of a Premier League club.”

In another recent interview his path towards management was pretty much confirmed when he said: “I’m doing my badges. I’ve got a lot of other interests but I definitely want to stay in the game when I retire. I feel I’ve got a lot to offer. I’d like to [stay in the game] definitely.”

If Ferdinand does indeed head into the management game the obvious destination within the capital is West Ham, the club which first nurtured his immense playing talents and gave him his first big break as a player.

Unsurprisingly, Ladbrokes have responded by deeming the Upton Park post his most likely destination at 12/1 within the next five years.

Next in the list come Fulham and Crystal Palace where it’s 20/1 Ferdy will be occupying the dugout, with QPR the next most viable London-based option at 33/1.

Chelsea looks a step too far at 100/1, whereas Arsenal and Tottenham are almost off limits according to Ladbrokes at 250/1, with current club United a 66/1 long-shot.

Perhaps the pick of the bunch though is the 2/1 on offer that the Man United legend will be in charge of any top-flight club in within the time frame, while it’s 6/4 he’ll be in charge of a lower league side.

Of course, Ferdinand will be treading a well trodden path of ex-United players joining the Premier League manager ranks.
