Man Utd v Swansea: In-form Welbeck to fire Reds past Swans

| 01.01.2014

The FA Cup has taken on a much greater significance at Old Trafford this season.

The Red Devils have made an indifferent start to the Premier League and find themselves 11 points off the pace down in seventh, making them massive 33/1 outsiders for the title.

David Moyes will be eager to snare a trophy in his first campaign and a record 11th FA Cup win, priced at 15/2, would go some way to appeasing his doubters.

An all-Premier League tie would not necessarily been his ideal scenario, but a clash against Swansea could be perfect for United.

The Swans last win against the champions came in 1935 and the Reds have failed to reach the fourth round just once in 28 attempts, making the 1/2 on offer for a home victory look almost generous.

Michael Laudrup’s men are woefully out of form.

Winless in seven, the Welsh outfit are unlikely to relish the trip to the Theatre of Dreams but they do have wins away to Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool on their CV under the Dane and backers expecting a good day for his men can get behind them at 6/1.

A replay is available at 10/3 for those expecting a tight affair.

Moyes’ charges were on six match winning run before defeat to Spurs last time out, keeping four clean sheets in the process and with their opponents failing to register in seven road trips this term a shutout for David De Gea and co. at 11/10 looks on the cards.

Danny Welbeck is enjoying a hot-streak as the focal point of United’s attack, notching five in his last six outings. Three of those strikes were the opener and the local lad is 11/2 to kick-start proceedings here.

Europa League commitments have seen Swansea struggle in the top flight this season and with survival integral it is widely expected that a weakened side will take to the field in this one.

With Welbeck in sparkling form and United hitting three goals in three of their previous five victories supporting a home win and over 2.5 goals at 6/5 would be wise.
