Brighton travel to Hull ready to claim an extra-time win

Brighton were five minutes away from avoiding this clash, only to see Yannick Sagbo cancel out Leonardo Ulloa’s opener to take the game back to the KC Stadium.
Having stared defeat in the face, Hull are now transformed into favourites to progress. Ladbrokes’ match-betting market pits the Tigers at 5/6 to topple Brighton at the second attempt, with a draw 12/5 and the visitors a 7/2 shot.
However, that market only applies to the result in 90 minutes and it’s clear that more time will be needed in order to separate these two.
Both teams just played full-throttle league matches on Saturday, so are unlikely to field their strongest sides here.
Hull certainly didn’t send out their usual Premier League XI when they visited the Amex last week and struggled to overcome a Brighton side whose line-up was equally varied.
With stalemate on the cards, extra-time and possibly penalties very much enter the betting equation and, considering the last midweek replay to adorn our screens, Fulham v Sheffield United, also went to extra time, it seems a precedent has been set.
But it’s Brighton’s far healthier odds of 16/1 to win after the additional period of tie-breaking play that really appeals (they are 10/1 to win on pens).
The Seagulls defended resolutely last time out and were unlucky not to hold on to their slender advantage.
Just three defeats in their last 10 away days suggests they are more than adequate travellers and considering Hull have kept just two home clean-sheets in the last eight, will certainly be afforded enough chances to win, it just might take some time.
