Everton’s FA Cup odds made more striking by Emirates performance

It’s true that the balls were a little unkind to Everton in the FA Cup quarter-final draw as lady luck decreed they must overcome Arsenal rather than likes of Sheffield United, with the tie to be played at the Emirates to boot.

However, before you discount the Toffees from having their name etched on the famous cup this season, there is some evidence to suggest their odds of 13/2 for glory could yet land a handsome windfall.

Winning the cup and ending the club’s painful wait for a trophy is something which Irish right-back Seamus Coleman admits is driving the current squad.

Coleman said: ‘Winning an FA Cup is massive for any club and it would be as big for us and a big stepping stone for other things.’

Everton should have nothing to fear from a trip to the shiny surrounds of the Emirates either, if their Premier League visit is anything to go by.

That game back in early December saw Roberto Martinez’ side leave North London with a share of the spoils in a1-1 draw, earning seldom-seen praise from Arsene Wenger in his post-match comments.

The Frenchman was right too, as Everton not only offered more shots on goal, but a Ross Barkley-inspired performance ensured the Toffees claim 56 percent of the possession as well.

Although Liverpool were ousted in the fifth round, they will feel hard done by after creating plenty of chances, which should breed further confidence into their Merseyside neighbours.

It’s a tough ask to defeat Arsenal, but Everton’s odds are sure to shrink even if they manage to force a replay at fortress Goodison Park, let alone dump the Gunners out altogether.

Both clubs are vying to end a trophy drought, but a good sprinkling of the current Everton squad will still have the 2009 final defeat to Chelsea spurring them on to claim a first piece of silverware since 1995.
