Sturridge to bounce back for Liverpool by sinking Swansea

Published:

Daniel Sturridge endured a rare day to forget at the Emirates on his last Liverpool appearance when passing up a trio of gift-wrapped chances to score against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

However, given that only a few days earlier at Fulham he was busy etching his name into the Liverpool record books by becoming the first ever Reds player to net in seven consecutive Premier League games; we expect the England man to bounce back quickly.

With visiting Swansea likely to be a little weary after their Thursday night Europa League exploits against Napoli, Sturridge looks a snap at 3/1 to bag the game’s opener and invitingly priced to grab a brace or more at 11/4.

The Premier League’s second top-scorer had been somewhat eclipsed by his strike partner Luis Suarez in the middle part of the campaign, though he’s now got the Uruguayan checking his wing mirrors in the golden boot stakes with 16 playing 23.

England’s latest number nine has also broken the deadlock with five of those 16 strikes, while four have arrived at Anfield in his last three league starts alone.

Although Swansea have picked up their performance levels since Garry Monk took the helm, getting anything from this trip to Merseyside looks a step too far.

Liverpool have been so strong at home all season – where they’ve only dropped four points – but especially of late where they’ve trounced Everton and then Arsenal 4-0 and 5-1 respectively.

Another three points for the hosts feels a little like a formality at 3/10, though backing Liverpool to prevail with a -1 handicap at 4/5 certainly holds more appeal.
