Manchester City’s domestic treble certainly worthy of a flutter

| 04.03.2014

Manchester City are vying to become the first ever scoopers of the three major domestic trophies in English football during the same season and at 7/2, the Citizens are surely worth a punt.

Having shaken his bridesmaid status as trophy winner on European shores thanks to wonder goals from Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri, City boss Manuel Pellegrini has identified an unprecedented domestic treble as within reach for his Sky Blues.

“To win the first trophy is important for us all. For the players, for me and for the staff,” said Pellegrini.

“We are the only club with the chance to try to win all the competitions. We are going to try although we know it is not easy.”

With one trophy already safely banked, Ladbrokes’ 5/6 offering about them capturing a total of two this season shows the esteem Pellegrini’s star-studded side are held in.

But, having got themselves a home tie in the FA Cup quarter-finals – where one of their main rivals for the trophy, Arsenal or Everton, are guaranteed to fall – the 7/2 on a treble is a far more exciting proposition.

Holders Wigan cannot to be taken lightly, especially in current form, but with revenge on their minds 10/11 favourites City ought to be able to see the Latics off and edge one step closer to a third FA Cup final in four years.

The largest stumbling block to three-sided City success is certainly winning back the Premier League title, where Chelsea currently sit six points ahead after playing two more games.

However, should City win both games in hand then their superior goal difference would place them ahead of the Blues in theory and with current bottom-side Fulham and floundering West Brom still to come at the Etihad, this bodes well for the Citizens.

Having such talented individuals in their ranks that can turn games on heads as they did against Sunderland will be City’s greatest weapon, alongside the momentum gained by lifting the League Cup.
