Champions League finalist new name atop Spurs’ manager list

Rarely does a summer transfer window pass by without a “saga” engulfing the news agenda. Usually such a narrative revolves around a player but during the 2014 sunny months it’s likely a manager fills the transfer headlines.

The future of a number of big-club bosses is in doubt as the 2013/14 campaign draws to a close, with the jobs of Paris St-Germain, Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal head-honchos all in danger after suffering disappointment on differing scales.

One club who look certain to change tack in the dugout though are Tottenham, with Tim Sherwood on a farewell tour with the club in the remaining Premier League fixtures.

It has been posed that Louis van Gaal is the man Daniel Levy wants to replace the former youth coach with for the Lilywhites, who are 10/11 to cling on to the top six, but now a new man supposedly heads the list.

Jurgen Klopp would be at the head of all the aforementioned boards’ recruitment campaign should they decide on bringing in a new manager, but Levy clearly wants to steal a march on those far more attractive propositions by trying to woo the German to north London early on.

Klopp has a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2018 but having watched Mario Gotze move to Bayern Munich, only for fellow star man Robert Lewandowski to announce his intention to follow suit, he could be persuaded into a change of scenery.

The departure of Gotze, along with the arrival of Pep Guardiola at the Allianz Arena has seen a 17 point-gap develop at the top of the Bundesliga and Levy will surely hope that the now void in competition in Germany will urge the bespectacled boss to seek a challenge elsewhere.

Having claimed two league titles, two cup trophies and a Champions League runners-up medal in the course of his 263-game tenure, Klopp’s capture would be up there with any Levy masterstroke.
