Distracted Chelsea to propel Liverpool one step closer to title

| 26.04.2014

Sunderland’s shock victory over Chelsea has led Jose Mourinho to claim he’s now given up all hope of winning the Premier League title, instead deciding to throw all his eggs into a Champions League-shaped basket.

Not the news that fans of Manchester City wanted to hear, but with this game acting as the filling in Chelsea’s semi-final sandwich against Atletico Madrid and a five-point gap to overcome on the Reds with only three games remaining, it’s sort of understandable.

Meanwhile, with one hand grasped around the Premier League trophy, Brendan Rodgers side will be focused on flying out of the Anfield blocks to get the job done early in the same way they have been doing all season, no matter who the opposition.

It’s extremely rare to find Liverpool as short as 4/6 to beat any visiting Chelsea side, but with the two vastly differing attitudes to the game, it’s a price worth taking over the visitor’s 4/1 or even the draw at 11/4.

Robbed by injury of Petr Cech and John Terry – their two defensive rocks of this and many other campaigns – whatever makeshift back five Mourinho selects could be in trouble against the league’s highest scorers.

Liverpool’s free-scoring cast have made a habit of racking up goals against the other teams at the top of the league, racking up a combined 15 against the other current members of the top six.

They’ve also matched City’s record of scoring 3+ goals in 20 league games this season after putting three past Norwich at Carrow Road last time out.

Resultant bets which stand out, are the 13/10 about Liverpool to win a game containing over 2.5 total goals, over 2.5 Liverpool goals at 7/4 and the 3/4 saying the Reds will be the first to register two goals.

Chasing five more goals in the last three games to set a new Premier League scoring record, Luis Suarez is the stand put deadlock breaker at 7/2.
