Three clubs that would love to extend Didier Drogba’s career

Didier Drogba will have an added incentive to impress at the World Cup this summer after calling time on his spell with Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The Ivory Coast striker, who is 4/1 to top score for his country in Brazil, is now a free agent but at 36-years-old will need to use this summer’s tournament to prove he is still a force at the highest level.

Interest in the three-time Premier League winner is likely to be high, however, and here we look at three clubs that would benefit from his arrival.

Drogba to Chelsea @ 7/4

The forward spent his most productive and illustrious years in west London and with Jose Mourinho back at the club and intent on ridding the Blues of most of their striking options this summer there could be room for Drogba to return.

With Samuel Eto’o already gone and Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku all uncertain of their Stamford Bridge futures, Drogba could help oversee a vital transitional period alongside any other new arrivals.

The chance to feature in the Blues coaching line-up would also appeal and make Chelsea the most likely suitors so far.

Drogba to AC Milan @ 5/1

Drogba has yet to test himself in Serie A and despite his advancing years he would be expected to score goals in the Italian top flight.

With the match pace slightly slower than that of the Premier League Drogba could cause plenty of damage and has already been linked with champions Juventus.

However, with the Old Lady boasting a number of striking options, AC Milan seems a more likely destination.

Milan are unable to offer European football and as such will struggle to find players at the top of their game.

With AC’s MilanLab famed for prolonging the careers of ageing stars this seems like a match made in heaven.

Drogba to Marseille @ 8/1

It was Drogba’s displays at Marseille that caught the eye of Chelsea and set him on the road to superstardom  and with the striker now vastly more experienced the Ligue 1 outfit could benefit from his presence once again.

New manager Marcelo Bielsa has been tasked with returning Marseille to European competition and with Andre-Pierre Gignac the only player to reach double figures this season a free Drogba will be more than a little tempting.

Also, guiding his former club back into continental football would provide Drogba with a fitting way to call time on his professional career.
