The Political Bookie heads to Newark

The 7.30 from Kings Cross to Newark has just left. I’m on my way to check out what’s happening “on the ground” two days before the by-election.

Following Lord Ashcroft’s poll yesterday showing the Tories 15% ahead, they are now a red-hot 1/10 chance to retain the seat on Thursday. UKIP are out to 6/1. It looks like their best chance now is for large numbers of Labour voters to make a late switch in the hope of giving Cameron a bloody nose.

If any media types (or anyone at all for that matter) want to come and chat, I should be outside the Ladbrokes on Market Place from about 9.30. I will be the one standing next to a chalkboard with some by-election odds on.
