Bellew backed for unanimous decision win over Dos Santos

Published:

It is no secret Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly are on a collision course to fight in a huge domestic cruiserweight clash towards the back end of this year.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has put both fighters on the road to a much anticipated re-match but first they have to overcome final tests in Liverpool.

Oliver Yew takes a look at the best three bets as the Bomber takes on Julio Cesar Dos Santos.

Tony Bellew to win by decision or technical decision @ 7/4

The Bomber will be desperate to get past Cesar Dos Santos with the minimum of fuss in Liverpool as the carrot of fighting Nathan Cleverly dangles in the background.

But with this just his second clash at cruiserweight, Bellew will be eager to get down to the business of here and now and put in an impressive performance against a durable Brazilian fighter, who should put up a better show than his country’s football team’s defence at the World Cup.

Bellew will be desperate for a knockout win but, against an opponent who has 23 KOs from 26 wins and has never been stopped, he may just have to settle for a points decision on his way to a much anticipated re-match with his Welsh rival.

Fight to go the distance @ 6/4

There is plenty of power on show in this contest but both fighters have proven over the years to be tough nuts, especially at cruiserweight.

This may only be Bellew’s second fight at the weight but he came through a mini-crisis against Valery Brudov in March to prove he is over his knockout defeat to Adonis Stevenson at light-heavyweight.

Cesar Dos Santos is also a proven operator at 200 lbs and has never been stopped in 28 fights so despite the fact both guys are proven punchers, this could go to judges’ scorecards.

Bellew – unanimous decision @ 5/2

With the Ladbrokes News team expecting this contest to go all the way but ultimately end in victory for Bellew, it’s could be worth having a dabble in the Final Judgement market.

Bellew is a strong favourite to win the fight at 1/12 with the bookmaker and if as expected the Liverpool fighter dominates, backing him to win by unanimous decision could pay dividends.
