4 Premier League sides in running for Man City’s Scott Sinclair

Forgotten Manchester City midfielder Scott Sinclair looks set to depart Eastlands this summer with the 25-year-old seeking more first-team football.

The midfielder has made just three starts for City in two seasons and now appears to be keen on a move away from the Etihad after admitting he needs more game time.

“Personally I’m just looking to play as many games as possible – I don’t know what the future holds,” he told Sky Sports this week.

“If the manager is going to give me game time, then I would love to stay…But if that’s not the case I’m sure I’ll have to go elsewhere and to play more.”

Once part of the Chelsea youth academy, Sinclair previously impressed under Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City in the Premier League and could prove a canny acquisition for another Premier League side.

Here we assess the runners and riders for this intriguing transfer chase.

Swansea City @11/4

Sinclair played arguably the best football of his career during a two-year stay at the Liberty Stadium, scoring 28 goals in 82 appearances for the Welsh club before his move to Manchester City.

The appointment of former teammate and club captain Garry Monk, who played alongside Sinclair, could help the 25-year-old land a return move too with the Swans keen to recruit new players following a host of summer of departuresfrom the club.

Southampton @ 9/2

Like Swansea, Southampton have endured something of a mass exodus in the post season and are in desperate need of quality signings and some Premier League experience following the arrival of several players with little or no top-flight experience.

Sinclair certainly ticks both boxes and could be a useful asset to the club, helping to blood the next crop of Saints youth stars. More importantly he would add some much-needed attacking threat to the Southampton squad following the departure of key players like Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.

Aston Villa @ 4/1

Under pressure after two indifferent seasons at the helm of the Midlands club, Paul Lambert has been hitting the panic button in the transfer market so far this summer recruiting Joe Cole on a free alongside Liverpool loan flop Aly Cissokho.

Signing Sinclair could help alleviate some of the pressure on the Scot, while giving Villa an attacking option to complement Christian Benteke and provide some much-needed competition for the underperforming Charles N’Zogbia.

West Bromwich Albion @ 10/1

Sinclair spent part of last season on loan at West Brom but failed to impress during 11 largely anonymous appearances for the Baggies under Pepe Mel, who struggled to communicate with his players during a short ill-fated spell at the club.

A change of management could give Sinclair a second chance though, with Alan Irvine likely to be keen on recruiting a midfielder of the City man’s calibre with West Brom currently being tipped for the drop. The question remains as to whether he could convince him to come back.
